No grey area here! With just weeks to go until the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie hits theaters, the boundary-pushing flick got its official rating on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
The big-screen adaptation of E L James' best-selling novel will debut on Feb. 13 with an R rating. According to Variety, the raunchy flick was given the designation by the Motion Picture Association of America due to "strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity."
Starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as leads Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively, Fifty Shades of Grey may be more tame than the filmmakers originally anticipated. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel hyped the project as an even more scandalous take during the early stages of production.
"There is going to be a lot of sex in the film… It will be rated NC-17," she told the UK's The Sunday Times, adding that the movie is "100% going there."

Producer Dana Brunetti also hinted in 2013 that a second iteration of the first Fifty Shades film may be in the works soon after its release.
"I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R version and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later," he told Collider. "So everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well."
